Henna is all natural and connected to the earth. It is spiritual: a way of marking/ symbolizing journey through life. Henna is cultural; it is over 2,000-year-old practice. Henna is the ground leaves of a plant originating in Egypt and Africa, and the Middle East. Henna was used to cool the body, medicinally and in celebrations.
Getting henna provides an opportunity to relax, de-stress, and express your individuality, creativity and joy. Henna provides opportunities of ritual to mark a special moment or transition in time.
Henna lets you express yourself without the pain or permanence of other forms of body decoration. Many henna patterns have symbolism and meaning, while others are just for fun. Henna is a great way to celebrate a special occasion- a girl’s night together, a corporate event, or fundraiser. Henna decorates new brides to pamper and celebrate them and their coming union. Pregnant bellies are beautiful (and safe) hennaed. Really, you don’t need a reason to have henna except that it makes you happy. Sit back, relax and be pampered!
I use safe 100% natural henna, mixed with lemon juice, apple juice, sugar and essential oils. *if you have skin sensitivities, please let me know in advance. My henna is always safe and temporary.
Real Henna is NOT Black
Black “henna” contains a toxin called para-phenylenediamine or PPD (coal tar) and benzene (an ingredient found in gasoline and paint solvents) which will seep into your bloodstream from the “henna”. Imagine mixing gasoline, black dye, and coal tar and applying it to your skin to get your black “henna” tattoo.
PPD is a toxin.
How long does it last?
It can last a few days up to a few weeks, depending on the placement of the henna. Hands naturally fade faster as we wash them more. Henna also stains darker on the feet and hands because the skin is thicker. It will be a lighter color on other parts of the body. It stains darkest on the palms of the hands and soles of the feet.
1. Leave paste on for a minimum of 2 hours. Longer the better. Overnight makes for the best results.
2. Rub or scrape the paste off. Do not get it wet! Use a paper towel with oil (olive, vegetable, etc.) to remove any left on skin.
3. For the best color, try to avoid water for 24 hours. If you must shower, protect your design by coating it with a natural oil, shea butter or balm.
4. Design will progress from a light bright orange to reddish brown or dark brown depending on the person in about 48 hours. Color may continue to deepen even longer on some individuals.
